ChatGPT Response Table for Procurement
ChatGPT on category management.
I tried ChatGPT as an aid in blogging, and it works very well when you need to explain a generic theory or concept to your audience.
Getting to more sophisticated tasks, I asked ChatGPT to explain procurement category management to a non-professional. The response I received created a sense of Deja Vu from previous inquiries on similar procurement topics.
Obviously, when you know the subject well, ChatGPT answers strike you with primitivity and narrowness. You simply obtain a mix of boiler-plate phrases collected from product whitepapers and consultancy teasers.
Procurement Response Table by ChatGPT
I created this ChatGPT response table in response to a recent inquiry on category management. It can also be used for any other topic related to procurement.
You only need to link a random action from the left side of this table to another random result from the right side of it.
For example, strategic sourcing is leveraging purchasing power and selecting suppliers to achieve control and value.
SRM optimizes supplier relations to improve supplier performance and reduce risks.
Procurement must manage spend and develop strategies to define opportunities for achieving cos-efficiencies.
ChatGPT as an arbitrator
This post isn't meant to diminish ChatGPT's value. It instead suggests its topical use.For example, I found it helpful to use it as an arbitrator for a client's legal vs. procurement dispute regarding the ownership of the contract administrator role.
I suggested the following response to the question, "Is the contract administrator a threat to the legal department?" as an impartial view on the core subject of the dispute. I have yet to totally succeed, but the good argument was there.
ChatGPT isn't likely to help leapfrog the lack of education or experience. Yet, its wise and topical use is an excellent way to "gain understanding" and "achieve outcomes."
